Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

Subject: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
Date:
Location:

From August 19 through September 7, 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be working alongside local law enforcement to deter drunk driving and prevent tragedies during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The message is clear: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

During the 2024 Labor Day holiday (6 p.m. August 30 – 5:59 a.m. September 3), there were 505 traffic crash fatalities nationwide.Of these 505 fatalities, 34% (170) involved a drunk driver. Seventy-seven percent of the impaired drivers killed had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15 or higher. Among drivers between the ages of 18 and 34 who were killed in crashes over the Labor Day holiday in 2024, 40% of those drivers were drunk, with BACs of .08 or higher.

If a driver intends to drink during a Labor Day festivity, he or she should plan ahead for a safe ride home by securing a designated driver or calling a taxi or rideshare. They shouldn’t wait until after drinking to plan how to get somewhere. Impairment clouds a person’s judgment and endangers others on the road.

If a driver finds they are unable to drive, they should give theirkeys to a sober driver so that person can get them home safely. When a friend has been drinking and is considering driving, friends should be proactive — take away the keys and help them get a sober ride home. If anyone spots a drunk driver, contactlocal law enforcement.

This Labor Day weekend, law enforcement will be on the lookout for impaired drivers by conducting high visibility patrols. If you’re drinking, don’t get behind the wheel. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Man Arrested Naked After Midnight Traffic Stop Leads to Stolen Motorcycle Discovery

Subject: Man Arrested Naked After Midnight Traffic Stop Leads to Stolen Motorcycle Discovery
Date: 08/10/2025
Location: NE Industrial HWY and HWY 81

In the early hours of Sunday morning, August 10, 2025, a traffic stop on Highway 81 turned into a bizarre and eventful arrest after a nude driver was found hauling a stolen motorcycle and drug paraphernalia.

At approximately 1:00 a.m., A Deputy with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling near mile marker 159 on HWY 81, north of Norfolk, when he observed a pickup truck pulling a trailer without functioning lights. Upon activating his emergency lights, the vehicle failed to stop immediately, continuing north before eventually pulling over eastbound on Northeast Industrial Highway.

The vehicle, a gray Chevy 2500 with Iowa plates, was hauling two motorcycles on a flatbed trailer. When the Deputy approached the truck, he found the driver — later identified as Kipp Polston, 47, of Iowa — completely nude, using a pair of pants to cover himself. When asked why he was naked, Polston stated he was “hot” and “allergic to his own sweat.”

Polston informed the Deputy that his driver’s license was expired and possibly suspended due to an unpaid citation. Dispatch later confirmed that his license was, in fact, suspended.

During the interaction, Polston’s alertness deteriorated rapidly, leading the Deputy to initially request medical assistance. However, after regaining composure, Polston was arrested for Driving Under Suspension. He then disclosed to the Deputy that he had a “pipe and dab” in the vehicle — slang commonly associated with marijuana concentrates.

As the Deputy attempted to place Polston in the patrol vehicle, the suspect resisted, claiming claustrophobia, and dropped to the ground, refusing to move. A backup Deputy arrived, and Polston was transported by that Deputy.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered:

  • A container with a brown, waxy substance believed to be THC concentrate
  • A marijuana water pipe with burnt residue
  • A black pistol case containing a BB gun with obscured serial numbers, initially suspected to be a real firearm

Both motorcycles were run through dispatch. One — a black Honda Goldwing — was reported stolen and will be processed as evidence. The second motorcycle, a black Kawasaki, was registered to a different Iowa resident and was not listed as stolen.

Polston was transported to the Madison County Jail and is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Theft ($1,500–$4,999)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Driving Under Suspension
  • Resisting Arrest (First Offense)
  • Defective Vehicle Lighting

The vehicle, trailer, and both motorcycles were impounded and taken to the Madison Sheriff’s Office lot.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be pending.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Nebraska State Patrol and Norfolk Fire and Rescue.

On January 24th, 2025 at approximately 3:45 pm, Deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of North Main St. and HWY 81, North of Madison for a report of a two vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered a vehicle with damage on the shoulder of HWY 81 and another vehicle in a field east of HWY 81.

The driver of the vehicle on the shoulder of the Highway was trapped in the vehicle, emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to extricate the driver. The vehicle in the field was a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Sarah Robinson (34) of Madison.

A witness on scene informed Deputies that the Chevy was headed eastbound on North Main, from Madison. The Chevy then stopped at the stop sign. The Chevy then entered onto HWY 81 where is was struck by the Chrysler. The Chrysler then continued across the HWY and into the field across the HWY where it came to rest.

Two-Vehicle Injury Accident, Highway 81 near 846 Rd.

Subject: Two-Vehicle Injury Accident, Highway 81 near 846 Rd.
Date: 07/18/2024
Location: HWY 81 near 846 Rd.

On July 18th, at approximately 8:30pm, Madison County Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 81 and 846 Rd., on the County Line between Madison and Pierce, for a two-vehicle accident with injuries. Norfolk Fire and Rescue personnel arrived before Deputies.

Madison County Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with witnesses who advised that a red Ford F150 was crossing Highway 81 westbound at 846 rd. when it failed to stop at the stop sign. This vehicle was then struck broadside by a gray Ford F150 that was traveling southbound. The red Ford then flipped on its top in the ditch southwest of the intersection.

The driver of the gray Ford was a 17 year old male out of Pierce. The 17 year old male admitted to Law Enforcement that he had been using alcohol before the accident, and also later admitted that he was not using his seat belt. The 17 year old male was tested and it was found that he had a Blood Alcohol Content above the legal limit of .080 for driving as an adult. That juvenile was transported to Faith Regional for suspected minor injuries and later released.

The driver of the red Ford trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Fire and Rescue Personnel. The driver of this vehicle was identified as Brent Arens of Norfolk. Arens was flown by Life Net prior to law enforcement arrival. Evidence on the scene and statements by rescue personnel on scene indicate Arens was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Arens’ condition was stable but no further details are known at the time of this release.

Both vehicles are considered a total loss and alcohol is considered a major factor in this accident.

The investigation of this accident is still ongoing.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Nebraska State Patrol, Norfolk Fire and Rescue, Hadar Fire and Rescue, Pierce Fire and Rescue, as well as Norfolk Police Dispatch.
