On January 24th, 2025 at approximately 3:45 pm, Deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of North Main St. and HWY 81, North of Madison for a report of a two vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered a vehicle with damage on the shoulder of HWY 81 and another vehicle in a field east of HWY 81. The driver of the vehicle on the shoulder of the Highway was trapped in the vehicle, emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to extricate the driver. This vehicle was a 2004 Chevy Malibu, driven by Merridy Tomasek (72) of Norfolk. The Chevy had heavy front end damage with airbags deployed. The vehicle in the field was a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Sarah Robinson (34) of Madison. A witness on scene informed Deputies that the Chevy was headed eastbound on North Main, from Madison. The Chevy then stopped at the stop sign. The Chevy then entered onto HWY 81 where is was struck by the Chrysler. The Chrysler then continued across the HWY and into the field across the HWY where it came to rest. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Faith Regional Health Services. Robinson was treated for non-life threatening injuries and later released. Tomasek was treated and later succumbed to her injuries. Family has been notified. An autopsy was ordered related to this incident, and the accident is currently still under investigation. Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Madison Fire and Rescue, and Madison Police. |
