On August 29, 2025 Ronald Murray, 62, died while in incarcerated at the Madison County Jail. Early in the morning of the 29th, Murray complained of heart-related symptoms and was taken from the jail by ambulance to a hospital in Norfolk. He was examined and release back to the jail. Shortly after 8AM on the same day Murray was still complained of the same issues and was examined by the Jail’s nurse. She recommended further evaluation and Murray was taken from the jail by a corrections officer to go to a hospital in Columbus. While nearing the hospital Murray complained of increased symptoms. The corrections officer stopped to render aid. The corrections officer called 911 and began life saving measures along with the help of a passing citizen. Murray was then transported by a rescue unit to the hospital. Life-saving measures were continued at the hospital but Murray later died at the hospital. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal investigation of the incident. Nebraska State Statute requires an independent investigation into any in-custody death. This is being conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol. Next of kin has been notified. — Jon Downey, Chief Deputy |
