Make It Click Campaign Reminds Drivers: Madison, Nebraska — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is reminding motorists to buckle up as part of the national Click It or Ticket high-visibility enforcement effort. This annual seat belt campaign, aligned with the busy Thanksgiving holiday travel season, will run from November 26–30, 2025. “We want seat belt use to be second nature for every driver and passenger,” said Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk. “Wearing your seat belt isn’t just the smart thing to do — it’s the law. Throughout the Make It Click campaign, we’re teaming up with law enforcement partners across the region to ensure this message is heard loud and clear. Buckling up is the simplest step you can take to protect yourself in a crash. Too often, we witness the tragic consequences of not wearing a seat belt, and many of those losses could have been prevented.” The national seat belt use rate in 2023 reached 91.9%, a strong number — but the remaining 8.1% still represent thousands of unrestrained drivers and passengers whose lives are at risk. As part of the campaign, participating law enforcement agencies will take a zero-tolerance approach to seat belt violations, issuing citations both day and night. Data shows that between 2019 and 2023, traffic fatalities increased by 7% in 2024. “If this enforcement effort helps even one driver understand the dangers of not buckling up, then we’ve succeeded,” Sheriff Volk added. “Seat belts save lives. Whether you’re in the front seat or the back, child or adult, take a moment to buckle up every time. As we move into the Thanksgiving and Christmas travel season, it’s critical that we all make safety a priority.” Sheriff Volk also emphasized the importance of proper child restraint installation. “If adults are unsure about the correct mounting of child safety seats, please check in with your local law enforcement agency to see if they can assist,” he said. “My deputies will be more than happy to help. Madison County deputies will be out in full force to ensure motorists follow Nebraska’s seat belt laws and make safe choices on the road.
