FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 12/4/2025 CONTACT: Sheriff Todd Volk National Make It Click Effort: Madison County, Nebraska — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office participated in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Make it Click high-visibility seat belt enforcement campaign, held November 26th through November 30th. During this enforcement period, deputies conducted 45 traffic contacts, issued 9 citations, 1 seat belt citation, 1 child restraint citation, and made 3 arrests. The campaign, which coincided with the Thanksgiving holiday, focused on combining increased enforcement and a zero-tolerance policy with strong public education on the importance of seat belt use. “This year’s Make It Click campaign was a success,” said Sheriff Todd Volk. “Through our enforcement efforts, we believe we helped keep community members safe and reminded drivers of the importance of buckling up.” A before-and-after observational survey was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office to monitor unrestrained drivers. The Office observed an 11-percent increase in seat belt usage following the campaign. “This Thanksgiving season brought challenging weather, and our goal was to be visible and remind citizens of the importance of buckling up, especially when road conditions are poor,” said Sheriff Volk. “The extra call load from the weather did create challenges for my deputies; however, they stepped up again and still did a great job during this campaign.” The Madison County Sheriff’s Office will continue participating in these safety mobilizations to help ensure all drivers and passengers buckle up and stay safe on the road.
