FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 12/10/24 CONTACT: Sheriff Todd Volk Successful National Make It Click Effort: Madison County Sheriff’s Office wrote 3 seat belt citations, 27-citations, 81- contacts and 18 arrested. Madison Nebraska — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration raised awareness about seat belt safety to area residents during the Click It or Ticket high-visibility seat belt enforcement campaign, held November 23- December 1st. Law enforcement officers wrote a total of 27 citations including 3 seat belt violations in the process. The campaign, which coincided with the Thanksgiving holiday, was twofold: to combine increased enforcement and a zero-tolerance policy, with effective communication to road users on the importance of seat belt use. “This year’s Make It Click campaign was a major success,” said Sheriff Todd Volk. “Through our enforcement efforts we conducted 81 contacts.” “Deputies were able to issue 27 citations and took 6 impaired drivers off the road. The national seat belt use rate in 2023 was 91.9%. The Make It Click campaign is focusing on the remaining 8.1% who still do not buckle up. Thousands of lives could be saved each year if every person was properly restrained on the road. “Please remember to buckle up with the upcoming holiday seasons,” requested Sheriff Todd Volk. Madison County continues to help enforce important laws including seat belts and distracted driving education. Madison County will continue to utilize these mobilizations to help all drivers learn to buckle up and drive safe.
