On August 8, 2024 at 12:53 p.m. Madison Police and Madison County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 306 East 2nd Street in Madison Nebraska, for a disturbance. The 911 caller advised that a male was threatening another male with a knife to the victim’s throat and threatening to kill him. Upon arrival, Madison Police and Deputies found that the victim was able to get out of the house, but the suspect, Latitus Menyweather, was still in the house. Law enforcement attempted to have contact with Menyweather, but he threatened law enforcement and barricaded himself. Menyweather was also making threats of suicide-by-cop and at that time, it was unknown what weapons he had in his possession. A portion of East 2nd Street (also Hwy 32) was closed down for safety reasons, with assistance from Nebraska State Patrol and the City of Madison. The Norfolk Police/Madison Sheriff Tactical team was called and responded to the scene. Negotiations were established with Menyweather and after 2 ½ hours Menyweather walked out of the house and was taken into custody. Menyweather was then transported and placed into the custody of the Madison County Jail. There were no injuries reported from the incident or arrest. The Madison Police Department is the arresting agency and the Madison County Jail was advised that Latitus Menyweather is being charged with the following crimes: Terroristic Threats False Imprisonment Use of Weapon to Commit a Felony Obstructing a Peace Officer
