Two Vehicle Accident Hwy 81 and 835

Subject: Two Vehicle Accident Hwy 81 and 835

Location: Madison County

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at approximately 1:38 p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle collision with no reported injuries south of the intersection of Highway 81 and 835. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 32-year-old Yankton resident, traveling northbound, struck a pickup and trailer parked on the shoulder. Upon arrival, deputies temporarily diverted traffic to ensure safety while emergency personnel assessed the scene. Norfolk Fire and Rescue assisted and cleared all personnel involved. No one was injured in the accident. Nebraska State Patrol assisted with traffic control.

One Vehicle Accident

Location: Highway 81 North of Industrial Highway- Madison County

At approximately 12:24pm on January 16th, 2025, Deputies of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle accident with injuries near Hwy 81 and North East Industrial Hwy north of Norfolk, NE.

It was determined that a Jeep Rubicon, being driven by Jay Prauner (63) of Norfolk, was traveling north on Hwy 81 when the vehicle left the roadway. Prauner was located outside of his vehicle, along side of the roadway.  The vehicle came to rest north of the bridge in the field east of Hwy 81. Prauner was transported by Norfolk Rescue to Faith Regional in Norfolk, in critical condition. Due to his injuries Prauner was later flown to University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha Nebraska.

The accident is still under investigation. Madison Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Norfolk Fire and Rescue, and Nebraska State Patrol.
