Fatality Crash

Location: Intersection of Highway 81 and Highway 32

On December 13th, 2025 at approximately 8:00 AM, a fatality accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 81 and 32 on the edge of Madison in Madison County.

A witness at the scene stated a White 2020 International Straight truck was traveling westbound on Highway 32 approaching Highway 81. It failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection and struck a Silver 2017 Jeep SUV which was traveling southbound on Highway 81. The Jeep then traveled into the ditch on the southwest side of the intersection and came to a rest. The straight truck spun around facing eastbound on Highway 32 before coming to a rest on its side in the southwest ditch. The driver of the Jeep, 49-year-old Robin Cobaugh of Ogallala NE was transported by Madison Rescue to Faith Regional in Norfolk with life saving measures in process. She later died from her injuries at the hospital.

Cobaugh’s next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the straight truck, 54-year-old Jose Figueredo, was arrested for Reckless Driving and Motor Vehicle Homicide. He is currently housed in the Madison County Jail.

Seatbelts were in use by both drivers.

Agencies involved were The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and The Nebraska State Patrol. The accident is still under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.

2 Car Injury Accident

Location: Highway 81 at N Main St

On June 19th, 2025, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Madison Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, and Madison Fire and Rescue, responded to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of 81 Highway and N Main St just outside Madison City Limits.

Initial on scene investigation, eye witness testimony, and evidence present at the scene, indicated that a Black Dodge Durango, driven by 43 year old Brenda Garcia Martinez, almost struck a vehicle northbound on 81 Highway when it turned left onto 81 Highway from N Main St. The driver of the Black Dodge Durango then stopped the vehicle in the left lane of traffic on 81 Highway northbound, and was struck from behind by a Red Nissan Sentra, driven by 18 year old Day Paw, who traveling northbound on 81 Highway.

81 Highway northbound was shut down and traffic was diverted onto N Main St. All four occupants in the Red Nissan Sentra were transported by Madison Rescue to Faith Regional Health Services for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The two occupants in the Black Dodge Durango refused transport by Madison Rescue and were later transported to Faith Regional Health Services by personal transportation. 

Brenda Garcia Martinez was cited for multiple violations. This incident is still under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
