Date: 12/11/2025
Location: U.S. Highway 81 near mile marker 152, or 837th Rd, just south of Norfolk.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Madison County Sheriff’s Office Responds to Serious Rollover Crash on Highway 81 Norfolk, Nebraska – December 11, 2025 – On Wednesday, December 11, 2025, at approximately 7:36 a.m., deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash with injuries on U.S. Highway 81 near mile marker 152, or 837th Rd, just south of Norfolk. The crash occurred during a period of light drizzle that rapidly began freezing on roadways, creating hazardous driving conditions. Officers from other agencies and emergency responders were simultaneously dispatched to multiple other crashes throughout the area due to the sudden onset of icy conditions. Witnesses reported that the southbound vehicle began sliding toward the center lane, then overcorrected, left the roadway to the right, and rolled approximately 2½ times. The adult driver was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. A small child, who was restrained in a child safety seat, that was not properly secured to the vehicle seat, received minor injuries. Norfolk Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the scene, provided emergency medical care, and transported the driver to a local hospital in serious to critical condition. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office reminds all motorists to exercise extreme caution during winter weather events, reduce speed, increase following distance, and ensure all passengers especially children are properly secured in appropriate safety restraints.
