Single Vehicle Rollover Accident

Location: Hwy 24, East of Channel Road

On March 31st, 2026 at approximately 11:48 pm, deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle rollover accident on Hwy 24, east of Channel Road. It was determined the vehicle was westbound on Hwy 24 when it lost control and rolled into a field to the south of Hwy 24. The sole occupant and driver of the sedan, Cisco Rhinehart (32), was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted via LifeNet to UNMC Omaha with suspected serious injuries. Rhinehart was believed to not be wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol is suspected to be a factor. The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting the accident investigation with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigating possible charges. This portion of Hwy 24 was shut down for approximately one hour.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Stanton County Sheriff’s Office, Norfolk Fire and Rescue, and LifeNet.

Two Vehicle Accident

Location: HWY 81 and Industrial HWY

At approximately 1:01 pm on January 7th, 2025, deputies of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle accident with suspected injuries at the intersection of HWY 81 and Industrial HWY north of Norfolk, NE. It was determined a Chrysler Town & Country being driven by Soley Nelson (23) of Norfolk was attempting to turn south onto HWY 81 from Industrial HWY. Nelson had crossed the north bound lanes of HWY 81 and stopped in the median of HWY 81 awaiting for the south bound traffic on HWY 81 to clear. A Nissan Pathfinder being driven by Jorge Medina Padilla (31) of Norfolk was proceeding behind Nelson and was also attempting to turn south onto HWY 81 from Industrial HWY. The Nissan had rear ended the stopped Chrysler causing a collision in the center median of HWY 81. Neither drivers were transported by rescue for any injuries. Deputies cleared from the accident at approximately 1:45 pm.

Fatality Rollover Accident

On Sunday, October 6th at approximately 11:25 A.M., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle rollover accident on Hwy 32 approximately 6 miles west of Madison. Deputies arrived on scene and determined the SUV was traveling east on Hwy 32 when it went off the roadway, overcorrected and overturned on multiple occasions into a field. A male passenger, identified as Pha Cen (68) of Madison, was ejected as a result. Cen was transported by EMS to Faith Regional Health Services where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and was transported to UNMC Omaha via LifeNet for life threatening injuries. Another passenger was transported by EMS to Faith Regional Health Services for non-life threatening injuries. It is believed Cen was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Next of kin has been notified. 

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Madison Fire & Rescue, Battle Creek Fire & Rescue, Stanton County Emergency Management, and LifeNet.

Pursuit and Arrest of DUI

Subject: Pursuit and Arrest of DUI

Location: Madison County

At approximately 8:10 P.M. on September 28th, 2021, the Madison Police Department received a report of a reckless driver entering the Madison city limits. A Madison Police Officer located and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle after observing multiple traffic violations.

The vehicle then fled from the traffic stop and proceeded north on Hwy 81 from Madison. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office assisted in pursuit of the suspect vehicle. Tire deflation devices were deployed on Hwy 81 by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office but were unsuccessful.

The suspect vehicle continued northbound on Hwy 81 and eventually came to a stop near the 3800 block of South 13th Street, (rural) Norfolk.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Alfred Martin (62), was taken into custody without further incident. Martin was transported to the Madison County Jail and booked on the following charges:

     Flight to Avoid Arrest, Willful Reckless Driving, and Driving Under the Influence
