On June 11, 2024 at approximately 12:00 pm, a fatality accident occurred in Madison County, NE. The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 121/Highway 32, approximately 8 miles west of Madison.
A silver Chrysler Town & Country mini-van was traveling westbound on Highway 32, when a southbound red Chevrolet Tahoe SUV failed to stop for the stop sign located at the intersection of Highway 32 and Highway 121. The mini-van struck the SUV, causing the SUV to drive into the southwest ditch and roll. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels approximately 200 feet south of the intersection.
The driver of the SUV, 66-year-old Peggy Ondracek of Greeley, NE, was ejected from the SUV during the rollover and life saving measures were performed. However, Ondracek was later pronounced deceased after being transported and treated at Faith Regional in Norfolk. Ondracek’s next of kin has been notified.
A 4-year-old male passenger of the SUV was air lifted to Children’s Hospital in Omaha, NE via LifeNet due to injuries sustained from the crash.
The driver of the mini-van, 85-year-old Wilma Knapp, was treated at the scene and then transported to Faith Regional Hospital for her injuries. Seatbelts were not in use by Ondracek. The 4 year old male was secured into his child safety seat, and Knapp utilized her seatbelt.
Agencies involved in the incident include the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, Madison Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and Battle Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue. This accident is still under investigation.
