On Sunday, January 16 2022 at approximately 8:35 PM,  the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Battle Creek Police Department, and Battle Creek Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the scene of a one vehicle rollover which occurred near the intersection of 832^nd Road and 544^th Avenue.

Through the initial investigation it was found that at approximately 8:30 PM the vehicle, a Pontiac Grand Prix, ran off of the road causing it to roll, ejecting the driver. The driver, Shane Melcher, (DOB April 18, 1984) succumb to his injuries at the scene. Passenger Macaela Henkel (37 YOA) was flown from the scene by LifeNet helicopter for her injuries. Both occupants of the vehicle are residents of rural Meadow Grove.

Seatbelts were not in use by either occupant of the vehicle and alcohol may have been a contributing factor. The cause of the crash is currently under further investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
